SUMMARY:Ohio RAAM Challenge
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The event starts/finishes at Coffman Park in Dublin\, a suburb NW of Columbus. Topography in Central Ohio is relatively flat\, shaped by the great continental ice sheets. Eastern Ohio is dominated by the Appalachian foothills and is quite hilly. \nOhio in the Fall – the weather is great\, the leaves are turning color. The Columbus metro area boasts a whole lot of firsts – largest private R & D foundation (Battelle Memorial Institute)\, largest university campus (The Ohio State University)\, best place to raise a family (Business Week)\, top up-and-coming tech city (Forbes)\, best zoo and aquarium (USA Travel Guide) and a whole lot more. Best of all – the cycling is excellent.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \n200-MILE\nThe 200-mile riders head south and west passing through Danville and Howard to Mt. Vernon. They continue through Mt. Liberty\, Sunbury\, Galena and Lewis Center to the finish.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \n400-MILE\nThe 400-mile riders continue east from Millersburg into Amish country\, passing through Berlin and Sugarcreek before turning south. The route becomes increasingly hilly as racers make their way south across the Tuscarawas River\, through Cambridge and across the Muskingum River to Athens. Riders then follow the RAAM route in reverse\, heading west through Chillicothe to Greenfield. SUMMARY:Minnesota RAAM Challenge
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The event starts/finishes at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve\, 20 miles west of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Minnesota\, the Land of 10\,000 Lakes\, is farm country. \nThe area west of the Twin Cities Metro Area\, with quiet roads through gently rolling farmland\, has become a favorite of the cycling community. The area is home to several triathlons. Summer in Minnesota is beautiful. Temps are 75-85 ˚F – perfect riding weather.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \n200-MILE\nThe 200-mile course may be the flattest double century in America – 201 miles with only 5\,745’ of climbing. Riders cross the Mississippi River\, follow the St. Croix River\, a National Scenic Byway\, cross the Mississippi once more and then the Minnesota River before finishing at Lake Rebecca.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \n400-MILE\nThe 400-mile course is the flattest road RAAM Qualifier in the RQ System – 386 miles with only 12\,126’ of climbing. Riders cross the Mississippi\, follow the St. Croix National Scenic Byway\, cross into Wisconsin\, follow the Great River Road south along the eastern shore of Lake Pepin\, cross the Mississippi back into Minnesota\, and then the Minnesota River on their way back to the finish. SUMMARY:SoCal RAAM Challenge
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The event starts/finishes at Mance Buchanon Park in Oceanside. Both routes utilize portions of the RAAM route and both climb Mt. Palomar. The SoCal Challenge has the most varied geography of any ultra-event in the world. Steep mountains\, valleys and desert. The weather is generally very good: 60-80 F temps on the coast with orange groves and avocado orchards; 50-70 ˚F in the mountains with oaks and pines; and 80-100 ˚F in the desert with ocotillo\, cholla\, yucca and other cactus. \nThe cycling in Southern California is fabulous – extremely diverse. SUMMARY:Texas RAAM Challenge
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The event starts/finishes at City Park in Marble Falls\, 30 miles west of Austin\, the Live Music Capital of the World\, home to SXSW\, the largest music festival in the world. Texas\, the Lone Star State\, is ranch country. \nThe Texas Challenge features the best of the famed Texas Hill Country. There are lots of deer\, water crossings and cattle guards. It’s spring time in the Hill Country and the flowers – Blue Bonnets and Indian Paint Brush – will be blooming. Temps are generally 50-80 ˚F. Mornings can be foggy with clearing by afternoon. \nThe 200- and 400-mile routes are roughly concentric loops\, sharing the first 88 miles and the last 64 miles. There are thousands of miles of paved winding ranch roads with little or no traffic. You’ll experience some of the best cycling in the USA. Both the 200 and 400-mile courses are moderately difficult – ideally suited to advanced beginning to intermediate level ultra-racers. \nThe RAAM Texas Challenge is part of the 6-event Texas Ultra Cup.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \n200-MILE\nThe 200-mile route is challenging – 214 miles with 10\,389’ of climbing. The course lies entirely within the Hill Country – many small ranches. The Climbing is distributed fairly evenly throughout the route. The 200-mile racers head west through Comfort to Kerrville\, where they turn north and pass west of Fredericksburg and east to Willow City.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \n400-MILE\nThe 400-mile route is similarly challenging – 389 miles with 18\,902’ of climbing. The northern and eastern half of the route is within the Hill Country. The southern and western half of the route is within what is known as Southwest Texas – more remote\, larger ranches\, with several long steep climbs. The 400-mile race is the first RAAM Qualifier of the domestic ultra-racing season. It is also a great warm-up for racers and crew planning on doing RAAM in June. The 400-mile course continues south to Boerne. At Boerne the riders head west through Bandera\, Medina\, Vanderpool and Leakey to Camp Wood. This part of the course is semi-arid ranch country and features several steep climbs.
